Are you determined to include juices and smoothies in your everyday life? Are you already a juicing fan and looking for the best equipment? This post is for you! In this post, we will learn how to make more informed decisions with regard to purchasing the best equipment for your juicing needs!

The market is teeming with different devices – blenders, centrifugal juicers, slow press juicers (also known as cold press juicers or masticating juicers) – which can be horizontal, vertical, or have one or two gears… Making a choice is a difficult but fun process; you need to know which one will be the most appropriate for you at this time. The best device is the one YOU will enjoy!

CHOOSING THE MOST APPROPRIATE JUICER

There are several types of juicers. We will examine three of them – centrifugal, single-gear slow press juicers, and twin-gear slow press juicers.

CENTRIFUGAL JUICER

These are the most popular and affordable.

The juice is squeezed thanks to blades and a net. When the juicer is on, it forms a centrifuge through which the juice is separated from the fibres. The fruit and vegetable products are placed in a duct. The blades slice and dice the products to a pulp which is centrifuged, and from which, a juice is extracted. The juice runs through another duct and the pulp is collected in a container.

(Centrifugal Juicer)

Appropriate for whom?

  • Everyone who is new to juicing and is not certain whether he/she will use the device regularly.
  • For those who want to have a juice in a small amount of time.
  • For everyone who is looking for a cheaper alternative.

Advantages:

  • Very easy to use.
  • With the exception of the professional models, they are inexpensive.
  • It is quite quick to prepare a juice.

Disadvantages:

  • The juice oxidizes very quickly and should be consumed immediately in order to get all the valuable nutrients.
  • In a fridge, it lasts 5-7 hours.
  • Less juice is derived from the green leafy vegetables.
  • It cannot squeeze wheatgrass.

Advice:

  • Make sure the duct is large enough so that an apple can easily go through – this speeds up the juice preparation process because there is nothing to cut in advance.
  • The juicers should be powerful. This guarantees quicker squeezing and the oxidation occurs much less. In my opinion, 1000W is the optimal choice, but 700W+ will also do the trick.
  • I prefer a juicer whose container is at the side; it’s easier to clean this way.

What should I think about when considering this type of juicer?

  • Am I new to juicing?
  • Do I have time to spare, or do I want to save time?
  • What price am I willing to pay for a juicer?

Price range: £25 to £250+

SINGLE AUGER MASTICATING JUICER (SLOW PRESS)

This juicer is appropriate for people who will prepare their juices on a daily basis. It is also appropriate for people who are advanced with juicing and who can afford it. These machines extract the juice by crushing and pressing the fruit and vegetables. The valuable nutrients are mostly intact as this juicer does not produce much heat and does not oxidize the products.

Appropriate for whom?

  • For anyone who is certain that he/she will drink juices every day.
  • For those who follow detox programs on a regular basis.
  • For those who are willing to spend more money.

Advantages:

  • High-quality juices
  • Much less noisy
  • Minimum juice oxidation – depending on the device, the juices can be stored in a fridge up to 72 hours.
  • Does well with all types of green leafy vegetables.
  • Can extract juice from wheatgrass.
  • Can extract milk from nuts.
  • Some of the machines can make purees, sauces and even ice cream.

Disadvantages:

  • More expensive than centrifugal juicers.
  • Most of them have a smaller duct and fruits and vegetables should be chopped before putting them inside the juicer.
  • Juice extraction with this device takes a little more time than with centrifugal juicers.

Advice:

  • Ensure that the juicer can fit well in your kitchen – there are vertical and horizontal models.
  • If you want to extract your juice faster, choose the vertical model – it prepares the juice faster than the horizontal.
  • If you desire drier pulp and more highly squeezed juice, opt for the horizontal model.
  • If you are going to use it for wheatgrass, go for the horizontal model.

What should I think about when considering this type of juicer?

  • Am I going to make a lot of juices?
  • Do I want to drink higher-quality juice?
  • Am I willing to spend more money?

Price range: £150+

HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST BLENDER

There are a host of blenders out there, and this can make choosing one challenging. The blender is a great device not only for preparing smoothies, but also juices, purees, tapas, ice cream, different types of flour, and many other products.

If you are a total beginner with juicing, you can start with only a blender but you need to make sure you accompany the juicing recipes with added water.

Before choosing your blender, you should answer some questions. For instance:

WHAT AM I GOING TO USE THE BLENDER FOR?

If you want a blender with which you are going to prepare drinks with ice or smoothies, a less powerful blender is an option. If you plan on using it regularly and for other things such as purees, sauces, flours, etc., you will need a more powerful device.

HOW OFTEN AM I GOING TO USE IT?

If you are going to use it regularly, it is advisable to purchase a powerful device which will serve you better. If you plan on using it once or twice a month, then a cheaper and less powerful device is probably more appropriate for you.

CAN IT FIT IN MY KITCHEN?

If you have some space and you plan on using it quite regularly, a bigger and more powerful blender is a good choice, otherwise buy a smaller one.

HOW MUCH AM I GOING TO SPEND ON IT?

If you want to find a good blender for a reasonable amount of money, then you might have to devote some time searching for deals. Usually, cheaper versions have less options and not as much “horsepower” as their more expensive cousins. Therefore, if you plan to use it long-term, it is recommended to invest more money to buy a higher-quality blender.

HOW POWERFUL IT SHOULD BE?

Blenders vary greatly in their power capacity – from 200W to as much as 1500W. If you have a tight budget and plan on using it only for light smoothies (neither green leafy vegetables, nor frozen fruit), a 500W blender will serve you well. However, if you want your blender to prepare everything from smoothies with different fruit and vegetables (including frozen), to various sauces, to flour from nuts and seeds, it is highly advisable to choose a much more powerful blender which will deal with these things more easily and will last much longer.

HOW IS BUILD QUALITY AND HOW LONG IT IS GOING TO LAST?

Blenders that have plastic parts around the blades will last for much less time than those with metal or steel parts.

Blender jugs are also manufactured differently and can vary in size. Some are plastic, some are made from glass, others have a volume of 1 litre, others 2 litres, etc.

I would advise you to buy a blender with a bigger jug, especially if you have more space in your kitchen. If the jug is plastic, make sure it is BPA Free. However, a glass jug is easier to clean and more durable than a plastic one.

DOES IT HAVE A GOOD WARRANTY?

Always choose a blender with at least 1 year of warranty.

Good luck with juicing!
